How can paediatric (child) acupuncture help my child?

There are many different ways in which acupuncture treatment can help your child.

Firstly, acupuncture is effective in the treatment of a wide range of physical, mental and emotional conditions commonly seen in childhood. These conditions range from chronic cough to constipation, anxiety to asthma, sleep problems to seizures, functional abdominal pain to food allergies and nausea to nosebleeds.  Acupuncturists view any physical or mental-emotional symptom as a sign that there is an underlying imbalance in the child’s qi (vital energy).  Therefore, by addressing that underlying imbalance, an acupuncturist can potentially treat almost any symptom.

Secondly, acupuncture can help to boost a child’s physical, mental or emotional wellbeing.  Sometimes a child does not have a specific symptom, or set of symptoms, but they are simply not thriving.  Acupuncture can help a child to feel better in themself, so that they can begin to enjoy life more.

Thirdly, acupuncture is an extremely effective preventive treatment.  The extraordinary rapid growth and development that takes place during childhood and adolescence, together with the demands of life, can place a strain on a child.  Acupuncture can ensure that this strain does not end up causing physical, mental or emotional ill health.

Fourth, acupuncture can mean that your child is able to either reduce or come off medication they may be taking for a chronic condition.  A paediatric acupuncturist would always communicate with other medical professionals if this was a desired aim of treatment for your child.
